Gitmo Habeas Hearings [2009-11-15]
Thus far, 38 Guantanamo Habeas cases have been decided by the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision that Guantanamo detainers have the right to challenge their detention and conditions by utilization of habeas corpus hearings. Of the 38, 30 have been ordered released and 8 have been denied. Of the 30 ordered released, 18 have been released with 12 still detained. The current population is 215 detainees.
